Abstract
Nasal packing is essential treatment tool for postoperative care or epistaxis control. We compared non-adherent Tex pack and conventional vaseline gauze pack to see if there is any advantage of non-adherent Tex pack over vasaline gauze pack.
Either non-adherent Tex pack or conventional vaseline gauze pack was inserted postoperatively in 70 cases of septoplasty with submucosal inferior turbinectomy and 30 cases of intranasal ethmoidectomy for each group. Postnasal bleeding after
insertion,
rebleeding, nasal mucosal maceration after removal and prolapse of pack were evaluated in each group.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1) The incidence of postnasal bleeding after pack insertion was not statistically significant between both group.
2) The incidence of bleeding after pack removal was significantly higher in vaseline gauze group than non-adherent Tex group.
3) The incidence of maceration and laceration of the nasal mucosa after removal was significantly higher in vaseline gauze group than non-adherent Tex group.
4) There was ho case of prolapsus into the pharynx in non-adherent Tex group.
